Dinosaurs" refers to a diverse group of reptiles that existed millions of years ago but are now extinct. They first appeared during the Mesozoic Era, which spanned from about 252 million years ago to 66 million years ago. Dinosaurs were incredibly diverse in terms of size, shape, and behavior, and they ruled the Earth for a significant portion of its history.Dinosaurs can be classified into two main groups: Saurischia: This group includes the "lizard-hipped" dinosaurs. Its further divided into two subgroups: Theropods: These were primarily carnivorous dinosaurs, including well-known examples like Tyrannosaurus rex and Velociraptor. Sauropods: These were herbivorous dinosaurs with long necks and tails, such as Brachiosaurus and Diplodocus. Ornithischia: This group includes the "bird-hipped" dinosaurs. They were mainly herbivorous and had a wide range of body shapes and sizes. Examples include Triceratops, Stegosaurus, and Ankylosaurus.Dinosaurs went through various periods of evolution, adapting to different environments and ecological niches. They ranged from small, bird-like dinosaurs to massive, long-necked sauropods and fearsome carnivores. Some of the more famous dinosaurs, like Tyrannosaurus rex and Velociraptor, have captured the publics imagination due to their appearances in popular culture. The extinction event that occurred around 66 million years ago marked the end of the Mesozoic Era and led to the extinction of non-avian dinosaurs. This event is often associated with a massive asteroid impact that caused widespread environmental changes, including fires, tsunamis, and a "nuclear winter" effect due to the dust and debris kicked up into the atmosphere. As a result, many species, including the non-avian dinosaurs, couldnt survive in the altered conditions.
